In existence since the spring of 1993 when the group's founder and director, Mrs. Debby Coates, saw the need to show today's youth in a more positive and creative light.
The group provides an outlet for youth who enjoy singing and dancing, allowing them to perform regularly in front of audiences other than the occasional recitals, school choir performances, or pageants. Under her direction, the kids perform throughout Southern California, Arizona and Nevada.
When they first began the group of 20 consisted mainly of teenagers with the youngest members being just 10 years old. They were called "Electric Youth". Later there was a demand for younger kids, so they added "Baby Take a Bow" for children ages 3-6 and “The Tune Towne Kids" for 6-10 year olds. The group grew to over 100 performers and eventually merged as one into what is now called "From the Top Productions”.
In 2010 we reverted back to the original structure of being mostly teens and tweens and added a live band to enhance the performers.
Our performing group is unique in the way it gives young people the opportunity to perform live on variety venues and experience a multitude of different audiences from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, as well as the opportunity to contribute by giving back to those less fortunate.
From the Top is not a school it is a performing group. Rehearsals are not classes they are rehearsals used to enhance the talent and the kids abilities.
Director Debby Coates has been involved in children’s productions since 1987. She herself, as a child was a model and later an actress appearing in community theater productions, commercials and television shows such as “Facts of Life”, “Silver Spoons” and “Charles in Charge”.
The name “From the Top” derives from what Ms. Debby always says when the group start rehearsals, "Let’s take it from the top". It also comes from her faith in God and often says that "God is where we get all our talent and strength." We dedicate all our performances to give God the honor and praise. Because they literally, "Take it From the Top".

I once heard that it’s not the date of our birth and the date of our death on our tombstone that define who we were
But in truth it is the simple dash that separates the two.
I never knew this to be so true until Elizabeth.
She taught us all how truly precious life is and to live it to its fullest.
This young lady experienced and loved more in her few short years on this earth then most adults do in their entire lifetime.
We were all truly blessed to have known her.
We will always miss Elizabeth.
But remember her with a smile whenever we see a little girl
with a swinging pony tail.
We choose to honor our very own angel with a fund in her name.
This fund helps the cast members of From the Top Productions
with some of the expenses required in being a part of a group
such as ours may have.
